Thanks to all the parents who attended last week’s HPC meeting, which was both informative and interactive. Our 2 guest speakers (Piedmont Recreation Director Sara Lillevand, who provided an update on the Schoolmates Program for next year, and Piedmont City Council Member Jennifer Cavenaugh, who discussed ongoing work that the City Council and PUSD are doing together) did not disappoint and were generous with their time and thoughtful ideas (in fact, we may have created a new program for 5th graders out of our discussion!). If you missed the meeting, please ask someone who attended to tell you all about it.
So you don’t miss the next one, mark your calendars now–the next HPC meeting will be on Tuesday, April 10, (right after Spring Break) at 7:00 pm in the Havens Library. As Anne Dolid shared in her Principal’s Report, select Havens staff members will be our guest speakers that evening and will present their work on gender identity and expression as it relates to understanding the whole student. We will also be discussing PUSD’s funding requests for next year and HPC’s recommendations.
I hope you were able to check out the PAINTS Big Art Show and pARTy last week. We are grateful to PAINTS for their support of our lunchtime art activities, and their district-wide support for the visual art programs in our schools. A big shout-out to Mike Welch for his role in coordinating last week’s events. Thanks also to Lara Dickinson who is keeping our lunchtime activities (when it’s not raining) going strong.
I also hope that many of you took advantage of the Spring Fling fundraiser organized by Cindy Hinman (thank you!) at Crepevine on Tuesday night, and were able to take a night off from cooking while supporting the 3 elementary schools. Continuing with that concept, (I love any excuse not to cook!) Charlene Reis and Paul Arenstam of Summer Kitchen Bake Shop have generously offered to have a “pilot” pizza fundraiser this month specifically for Havens.
